about Fotorecord is the online journal for Christopher Record Photography.
This blog is mostly about photography. Couples looking for someone to document their wedding with emotional images full of love and laughter have come to the right place.
We like pictures that tell stories. Photography that doesn't intrude on your day. Images that stand the test of time.
After spending many years working as a newspaper photojournalist covering everything from hurricanes to athletes, presidents and celebrities, I decided to shift gears, go to work for myself, and focus on documenting some incredible weddings. We also do some corporate and editorial photography.
My wife Betsy is my best friend and business partner. I hope you will get to know me, my family and share some of our adventures as I talk about sports, life and, of course, photography.
Feel free to comment - we'd love to hear from you! (Christopher Record Photography retains the copyright on all images posted here. They are not to be used without permission).

Charlotte Wedding Photography: Caroline and Bryan

It was a Carolina Blue weekend as Caroline and Bryan and their families gathered for their  wedding at Myers Park United Methodist Church followed by a beautiful reception at Charlotte Country Club.

The weekend got off to a great start with the rehearsal dinner at The Duke Mansion where Tar Heel mascot Rameses made a special guest appearance for the two Carolina graduates.

Working with Caroline's mother, Marsha, a great team of professionals pulled off the spectacular event. Planner Dina Berg Blazek and her group spearheaded everything along with the wonderful team of Kelli Taddonio and Alicia Wagner of Charlotte Country Club.

The Bloom Room created beautiful floral arrangements and the club ballroom was transformed by a tent-frame adorned with lights creating a night sky-like atmosphere. Add in a Kathy Allen Fine Cake and great music and you've got an amazing party.

And thanks to my great team which included company photographer Laura Mueller, my good friend, the talented Richard Israel, and our apprentice John Gomez.

Congratulations to Caroline and Bryan and their families!

Charlotte Engagement Photography: Meredith and Phillip

I enjoyed a beautiful spring afternoon photographing engagement images of Meredith and Phillip at The Duke Mansion and later at Romare Bearden Park in uptown Charlotte.

The wedding season is here and I'm looking forward to working with this pair again at their wedding in Salisbury later this year.

Check back soon for images from an upcoming Charlotte wedding.

Ballet Photography: Charlotte Ballet's Little Mermaid

Charlotte Ballet's current offering dives into the underwater world of the Hans Christian Andersen tale of the Little Mermaid.

With choreography from Mark Diamond and new sets and costumes, the show shines both under the sea and on dry land.

Alessandra James (who alternates performances with Sarah Hayes Harkins) swimmingly brings the mermaid to life in this colorful, fun show.

Ballet Photography: Charlotte Ballet's Innovative Works

Charlotte Ballet's Innovative Works never fails to disappoint with a great variety of work performed in the intimate setting at the Patricia McBride and Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux Center For Dance.

This year's offering includes Ballad Unto by acclaimed choreographer Dwight Rhoden, Omologia from former North Carolina Dance Theatre dancer and now choreographer David Ingram, YAMATO, earth/nature/drum by choreographer Mark Diamond and Sketches From Grace by Sasha Janes. And four different Dancer Spotlights, with choreography by current Charlotte Ballet dancers, are rotated during the numerous performances.

The up-close setting at Charlotte Ballet's headquarters allows the audience a unique perspective and wonderful lighting design by Jennifer Propst brings drama to the pieces.

  • Wow. WOW. You are a true artist. I've admired your work for years.... you get dance. You get the athleticism and the artistry and the beauty and power of it. And to see work I had a small part in creating so fantastically through your eyes and camera lens... it's an honor to say the very least! Thanks for these amazing images.

  • Thank you for your kind words Jenni! Your lighting plays a big role in the overall experience of these pieces!

Ballet Photography: Charlotte Ballet's Nutcracker

While the story and Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux's wonderful choreography remain the same, there are many new faces in this year's edition of Charlotte Ballet's Nutcracker.

There will be numerous performances through late December so be sure to take in a show if you get the chance.

Charlotte Engagement Photography: Camilla and Will

Unpredictable autumn weather made scheduling Camilla and Will's engagement photos a bit challenging, but we were treated to a wonderful fall day as we wandered around Davidson and Davidson College, Will's Alma Mater.

I'm looking forward to working with this fun couple again at their wedding next year in Blowing Rock.

Charlotte Family Portraits: Sarah, Ben and Family

One of the wonderful things we've enjoyed in running our photography business for more than a decade is the great people we've met along the way.

We first worked with Sarah and Ben at their wedding in 2006, and we've seen them at numerous other weddings over the years, including when we photographed Sarah's sister Katie's wedding.

So it was a pleasure working with them again as we did a family portrait session with their daughters Ellie and Kate.

Thank you for the opportunity to work with your wonderful family!

Charlotte Wedding Photography: Isabelle and Mike

Isabelle "Izzy" and Mike married in a beautiful ceremony at First Presbyterian Church and celebrated with a fun reception at Charlotte Country Club.

We had the pleasure of photographing Izzy's sister Sarah's wedding to Brant at the same locations six years ago and it was wonderful to get the opportunity to work with her family again.

Thanks as always to our company photographer Laura Mueller who helped make sure we had all of the angles covered.

Congratulations to Izzy, Mike and their families!

Charlotte Wedding Photography: Merritt and Tucker

Merritt and Tucker's wedding celebration was about all of the wonderful things that make weddings so special.

The day, and night, were full of family, faith and celebration.

The elegant wedding at Myers Park Presbyterian Church was followed by a magnificent party at Charlotte Country Club.

Merritt and her mother Page worked extensively with Kelly Randazzo of Walton Event Design and Kelli Taddonio at the club and they all crafted an incredible setting and event. Meredith Stillman of Walton Event Design was on hand as well to help everything run smoothly.

From the unique,  stylish custom dance floor to the amazing flowers from Ted Todd at The Blossom Shop, everything worked together to create a spectacular evening. Other touches included a masterpiece from Kathy Allen Fine Cakes, lighting touches from Wink Lighting and rousing music from Atlanta Rythm & Groove of East Coast Entertainment.

Thank you to our talented company photographer Laura Mueller and another acclaimed photojournalist, Todd Sumlin, for helping make sure we had all of the angles covered.

It was a pleasure working with both of these wonderful families.

Congratulations Merritt and Tucker!

Charlotte Wedding Photography: Abigail and Chris

A little rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits as Abigail and Chris married in a beautiful ceremony at  First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte and moved to Myers Park Country Club to celebrate.

Some people may have thought they were seeing double as both Chris, with brothers Brandon and Barry, and Abigail, with sisters Dorothy and Sallie,  have twin siblings. The day was a wonderful family event with five grandparents on hand as well as numerous other family members and friends.

I knew the everything would run smoothly with Dina Berg Blazek and her team handling the planning duties.  Karen Lockhart Litton and the staff at Myers Park Country Club helped make the evening memorable.  And as always, Jay at In Bloom created amazing floral displays.

And a special thanks to my good friend, the talented Richard Israel, who graciously came along to work with me as our company photographer Laura Mueller was away on a trip to Spain.

Congratulations Abigail and Chris!
