about Fotorecord is the online journal for Christopher Record Photography. This blog is mostly about photography. Couples looking for someone to document their wedding with emotional images full of love and laughter have come to the right place. We like pictures that tell stories. Photography that doesn't intrude on your day. Images that stand the test of time. After spending many years working as a newspaper photojournalist covering everything from hurricanes to athletes, presidents and celebrities, I decided to shift gears, go to work for myself, and focus on documenting some incredible weddings. We also do some corporate and editorial photography. My wife Betsy is my best friend and business partner. I hope you will get to know me, my family and share some of our adventures as I talk about sports, life and, of course, photography. Feel free to comment - we'd love to hear from you! Davidson College is a special place for Katie and Mark.

The historic Well on campus is the place where Mark, a Davidson graduate, proposed to Katie in late January.

So it seemed the perfect spot for their engagement photos. We braved some strong spring breezes and had a great time wandering around the beautiful campus.

I’m looking forward to working with them again at their October wedding in Charlotte.

Cinderella, North Carolina Dance Theatre’s current offering, allows this dynamic company to show off its collective talents in a major production.

On top of the always amazing dancing, add in wonderful production values with beautiful costumes by A. Christina Giannini, set design by Alain Vaes and original lighting by Nate McGaha. And they all come together with the help of the talented production team led by Edna Mae Berkey. And of course the choreography and leadership of Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux.

This is a visually gorgeous production that incorporates humor along with elegance and grace.

The show runs through March 16th at the Knight Theater.

February weather in the Carolinas is often a bit of a roller coaster. And when we got a small snowstorm last week I was concerned about our Saturday engagement session for Maggie and Todd.

But, as if often the case in Charlotte, the weather rebounded nicely. And even though we still had a few small patches of snow on the ground, we were able to spend a very pleasant afternoon wandering around Uptown Charlotte.

This easy-going, attractive pair were great to work with and I even got an assist from Maggie’s mother Debbie, who was nice enough to hold a photo reflector and keep track of things as we moved around downtown.

I’m looking forward to working with everyone again at the wedding in June!

North Carolina Dance Theatre’s annual Innovative Works is a creative collaboration of sight, sound and movement.

And this year’s show has raised the bar once again with four unique pieces from four choreographers (Mark Diamond, Sasha Janes, Dwight Rhoden and Jean Pierre-Bonnefoux with help from Quentin “Q” Talley and dancers Pete Leo Walker and Melissa Anduiza).

The setting at the Bonnefoux-McBride Center gives the audience an intimate look at these incredible performances.

We were pleased to learn that the beautiful mountain wedding of Anne Marie and Joey was selected to be featured in the current edition of Carolina Bride magazine.

The wedding, planned by the talented team of Cortenay Matters and Elle Allen of Carolina Event Design, took place at the Banner Elk Winery on a beautiful fall afternoon. Lingky Sugg of Flowers by Lingky created some amazing florals.

The online gallery can be seen here: Carolina Bride.

There are so many great traditions at this time of year and one favorite is North Carolina Dance Theatre’s annual performance of the Nutcracker.

While so many things in the ballet remain the same, it was fun to see some new faces giving wonderful performances in the classic roles.

We are blessed to have NCDT in Charlotte so get out to see a performance if you get a chance. There are a variety of performances running through Dec. 22nd.

We wish everyone a wonderful holiday season!

Photographing North Carolina Dance Theatre for the better part of two decades has given me the opportunity to see many amazing performers, and dancer Sasha Janes was one of them.

But Janes appears to be on track to exceed his on-stage career as he continues transition to his new role as a choreographer. His latest work, an updated version of Carmen that incorporates local history and themes, is another triumph.

Another dancer I’ve photographed over the past few years, Melissa Anduiza, steps up to the challenge and makes a star turn as the lead character of Carmen. Also turning in wonderful performances are the men vying for her attention, Naseeb Culpepper and Pete Walker, and Anna Gerberich.

As a bonus, this performance opens with George Balanchine’s Western Symphony, set by associate artistic director and former Balanchine muse, Patricia McBride (unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to photograph this piece).

The show gives a sultry start to NCDT’s season.

I always welcome a trip to the North Carolina mountains in the fall and Anne Marie and Joey’s wedding was a perfect reason to travel to the Banner Elk Winery on a spectacular fall afternoon.

I had the pleasure of working with this attractive, athletic couple during their engagement session at Jetton Park in June.

We had ample opportunities for photography in the beautiful surroundings from the unique ceremony setting to the amazing views of the upper vineyards.

Many thanks to the incredibly organized Cortenay Munn Matters of Carolina Wedding Design, who along with her colleague Elle Allen had everything running like a well-oiled machine. Lingky Sugg of Flowers by Lingky created the beautiful florals and the staff at Banner Elk Winery was a pleasure to work with.

Company photographer Laura Mueller made the trek up the mountain as well and she helped capture all of the wonderful moments throughout the day.

Congratulations to Anne Marie, Joey and their families!

Mirra and Matthew were married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a dance-filled reception at the Ballantyne Country Club.

Mirra is a talented ballroom dancer and the couple’s choreographed first dance was one of the highlights of the day.

Mirra dances at Metropolitan Ballroom in Charlotte where I’ve photographed some of their dance instructors, including bridesmaid Tatiana and her husband Clement.

Thanks to my friend and former colleague at The Charlotte Observer, photographer Todd Sumlin, who helped document the day.

Congratulations to Mirra, Matthew and their families!

I first met Katie at her sister Sarah’s wedding to Ben seven years ago.

I’ve seen Ben and Sarah at many weddings over the years and it was a great pleasure and privilege getting a chance to work with their family again.

Katie and Chris were married at a beautiful ceremony at Myers Park United Methodist Church and then moved to a fun-filled reception at Carmel Country Club.

Thanks as always to our company photographer Laura Mueller for her excellent work.
