Portraits - Arnie the Carny

We've been very busy with a variety of photo shoots and post production computer work of late and I haven't had a change to update the blog.

I was on a corporate photo shoot this morning when I encountered a gentleman with such an interesting face I knew I had to take some time to take his portrait. Arnie, who will turn 80 later this month, introduced himself as "Arnie the Carny" and explained that he was a carnival worker much of his life. The journalist in me enjoyed hearing stories of his experiences.

My corporate client, one of the region's premiere builders, created an award-winning apartment complex for elderly people who have extremely limited income. A great idea and a wonderful facility.

Check back soon for what promises to be a fantastic wedding in Asheville and some bridal portraits we haven't been able to share just yet.

Engagement Photos: Alison and David

I hadn't met Alison and David before our photo shoot Monday. I was concerned it might be a washout as showers fell in the morning and rain was forecast throughout the day.
The couple lives near Boston but will be getting married here this Saturday in the Lake Norman area. It was great to get a chance to get to know each other a bit before the wedding.
I knew we were going to hit it off right away as they drove up totally unconcerned about the weather. They said they had been doing so much planning and preparing and they just wanted to enjoy themselves throughout the process.
The rain held off and the cloudy skies created a beautiful soft light. Alison and David have such great chemistry and were so comfortable in front of the camera that it made it a pleasure to photograph them.
I know their wedding is going to be spectacular with the talented Ivy Robinson handling the planning. Make sure to check back next week for wedding images.

Engagement Photos: Catherine and Stephen

The spring weather has been unpredictable as usual but we've been lucky to dodge raindrops during a couple of recent outdoor engagement sessions in Charlotte.
Catherine and Stephen are a fun couple who are so easy to work with. I'm really looking forward to their July wedding in Charlotte.
We headed out to Freedom Park on a chilly afternoon but we were fortunate that the sun peeked out just long enough for us to finish up our shoot.
I had to cross my fingers for a break in the showers this week on another engagement session that I'll post in the next day or two.

Check back for their engagement photos later this week and wedding photos early next week.

Bridal Portraits: Elizabeth at The Duke Mansion

As promised I'm posting images from Elizabeth's bridal portrait session Saturday at The Duke Mansion.
Elizabeth looked fantastic and we had a great time roaming around the historic building.
Thanks to Aundrea Hopkins at the mansion for setting everything up and to photographer Joe Strickland, who did an excellent job assisting on the shoot.
I'm looking forward to working with Elizabeth again at her May wedding in Charlotte.

The Story Continues: Laura and Mike (and Anna)

We started Laura and Mike's story on June 23, 2007 at their beautiful wedding at Atlantic Beach on Carolina's Crystal Coast.
And we were so pleased to get a chance to document their next chapter as we recently photographed them with baby Anna.
It's such an honor to have our clients trust us with all these important moments of their lives. And it's very gratifying to see families grow and blossom.
Betsy gave me an assist as we photographed them at their charming home in Charlotte.
I included some images from Laura and Mike's wedding and you can see more here.
Thanks Laura and Mike (and Anna), it was great working with you again.
The story continues.

Bridal Portraits - Jackie at the Duke Mansion

While photographing Jackie and Stu's engagement party earlier this year and I knew right away that they were going to be fun to work with. They are both very laid back and love to laugh.
Unfortunately Jackie had to deal with some serious bridal stress over the past few months. She had ordered her Lazaro dress at the ill-fated La Bella Sposa (you may have read about them in the news) and ended up having to scramble for her dress as well as all of the bridesmaids dresses. Jackie wanted to thank the folks at J Major's Bridal Boutique who she said were a huge help reordering and obtaining all the dresses.
As I set out to photograph Jackie's bridal portraits at the Duke Mansion I wanted to make sure to capture some of her vibrant personality.
I recently did a rehearsal dinner at the mansion and was impressed with all of the unique settings it offers. Thanks to Aundrea Hopkins, the wonderful senior conference services manager at Duke, who helped set everything up. Although they don't do wedding receptions, the Duke Mansion does an incredible job on rehearsal dinners and corporate events and is also a bed and breakfast.
Jennifer Wouters of Soiree Charlotte, who is the planner for Jackie's wedding, also stopped by to lend a hand. Thanks also to photographer Joe Strickland for doing another excellent job assisting me on the shoot.
Check back for images from Jackie and Stu's wedding later this month. I'll also soon be posting images from a Charleston wedding.
