Charlotte Family Photography: Anne, Kelly, Darcy and Bridget

After photographing their October wedding in 2007, it was wonderful getting a chance to spend some time with Anne and Kelly as we documented family life five years later with their two children.

It a gorgeous fall morning for a fun photo shoot at their south Charlotte home.

It was such a pleasure catching up with this delightful couple and getting a chance to meet their beautiful children.

Charlotte Engagement Photography: Melissa and Dan

Having spent many years as a newspaper photographer, I always enjoy catching up with fellow journalists.

I first met Melissa when she interned at The Charlotte Observer when I was a staff photographer there. Fast forward several years and I'm now working full-time in our photography business and Melissa is a newspaper photojournalist in South Carolina and she's engaged to Dan, a television journalist working in West Virginia.

I was excited to get a chance to work with them and we had a great time doing their engagement photographs. We did some shots in Freedom Park and then moved to The Green uptown for some fun images there.

Looking forward to working with them again at their wedding next year.

Charlotte Engagement Photography: Vanessa and Josh

We had a picture-perfect fall day for Vanessa and Josh's engagement session at Freedom Park in Charlotte.

The leaves haven't quite turned yet but the crisp air, warmed by plentiful sunshine made for ideal conditions.

Vanessa is a very close friend of my niece Melissa (Missy to our family), and it was great getting to know her and Josh a bit better.

I'm really looking forward to working with them again at their wedding in Charlotte in May.

Charlotte Portrait Photography: Carolyn and Paul Silas for Dress for Success

I recently had the privilege of photographing Charlotte Bobcat Coach Paul Silas and his lovely wife Carolyn.

They are the Honorary Chairs for "Look At Her Power," a fundraising event for the Dress For Success program.

The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Silas had a distinguished 16-year career in the NBA and he won three championship rings (two with the Boston Celetics and one with the Seattle Supersonics). He's also coached in San Diego (former home of the LA Clippers), the Charlotte/New Orleans Hornets and was the first coach for LeBron James when he was with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He then replaced Larry Brown as the Bobcats coach last year.

As a sports fan and former journalist, I enjoyed getting a chance to hear about some of their experiences.  They are incredibly gracious and down-to-earth.

Best of luck with this excellent cause!

Charlotte Engagement Photography: Tara and Ryan

Preparing for a very busy wedding season in the coming weeks, I got things started Saturday photographing Tara and Ryan's engagement session in the morning and a bridal portrait in the afternoon.

Tara and Ryan, whose wedding I'll be photographing in Cary in September, had mentioned trying some locations at the McColl Center For Creative Arts in Charlotte and it turned out to be a fun spot for pictures. An added bonus was the new North Carolina Dance Theatre building, which was another interesting location for photography.

They were naturals in front of the camera and we had a great time with the photo session.

Congratulations Tara and Ryan - I'm looking forward to photographing you again in September!

Charlotte Portrait Photography: Kelley and Her "Kids"

Kelley first contacted us in November to get some photos with her "kids," English Bulldogs Lily, Lucas and Brutus.

We decided to wait for some nicer weather and recently got together to photograph the group.

Betsy gave me a hand as we worked to corral them for a family photo.

Thanks for having us out Kelley!

Family Lifestyle Portraits: Welcoming William

It's always nice to see families grow and we recently had the chance to photograph William, the newest addition to Callan and Nicole's family.

We've been photographing his brother Cal and sister Lilly since they were babies and now it was Willim's turn.

Topping off the shoot on a hot July day with a run through the sprinkler was a great idea!

Congratulations Callan, Nicole and family.

Engagement Photos: Alison and David

I hadn't met Alison and David before our photo shoot Monday. I was concerned it might be a washout as showers fell in the morning and rain was forecast throughout the day.
The couple lives near Boston but will be getting married here this Saturday in the Lake Norman area. It was great to get a chance to get to know each other a bit before the wedding.
I knew we were going to hit it off right away as they drove up totally unconcerned about the weather. They said they had been doing so much planning and preparing and they just wanted to enjoy themselves throughout the process.
The rain held off and the cloudy skies created a beautiful soft light. Alison and David have such great chemistry and were so comfortable in front of the camera that it made it a pleasure to photograph them.
I know their wedding is going to be spectacular with the talented Ivy Robinson handling the planning. Make sure to check back next week for wedding images.

Engagement Photos: Catherine and Stephen

The spring weather has been unpredictable as usual but we've been lucky to dodge raindrops during a couple of recent outdoor engagement sessions in Charlotte.
Catherine and Stephen are a fun couple who are so easy to work with. I'm really looking forward to their July wedding in Charlotte.
We headed out to Freedom Park on a chilly afternoon but we were fortunate that the sun peeked out just long enough for us to finish up our shoot.
I had to cross my fingers for a break in the showers this week on another engagement session that I'll post in the next day or two.
Alison and David live near Boston but they'll be getting married in the Lake Norman area this Saturday. We did a quick engagement shoot Monday.
Check back for their engagement photos later this week and wedding photos early next week.
