Ballet Photography: North Carolina Dance Theatre's Nutcracker

It's that time of year...holiday parties, Christmas music and decorations and North Carolina Dance Theatre's Nutcracker.

Many families, including mine, make it a holiday tradition and it never disappoints.

The show runs through Dec. 23rd.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Charlotte Engagement Photography: Margaret Rose and Eric

The holiday weekend turned out to be quite eventful.

I cooked my first-ever turkey on the Thanksgiving and photographed an engagement session and some family portraits over the weekend.

Margaret Rose and Eric flew in from Chicago to share Thanksgiving with family and it worked out that we were able to schedule their engagement photos. They are such an attractive and personable couple and we had a great time wandering around Freedom Park.

I'm looking forward to working with them again when they return to Charlotte in April for their wedding.

It was a pleasure working with you two - stay warm up in Chicago!

Charlotte Engagement Photography: Jessica and Joel

It had all of the ingredients for a great photo shoot - an attractive, fun-loving couple, a beautiful setting, a stunning fall day and even a cooperative Yellow Lab named Howie.

Thanks so much for a great afternoon and best of luck Jess and Joel!

Ballet Photography: NCDT's Limitless

The North Carolina Dance Theatre kicked off its season in a big way with Limitless, a collection of three premieres.

The show includes contemporary offerings from Sasha Janes and Dwight Rhoden and Blue Danube, a more traditional ballet from Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux.

It was an amazing start to what promises to be another wonderful year for NCDT.

Charlotte Family Photography: Anne, Kelly, Darcy and Bridget

After photographing their October wedding in 2007, it was wonderful getting a chance to spend some time with Anne and Kelly as we documented family life five years later with their two children.

It a gorgeous fall morning for a fun photo shoot at their south Charlotte home.

It was such a pleasure catching up with this delightful couple and getting a chance to meet their beautiful children.

Charlotte Wedding Photography: Melissa and Dan

I first met Melissa several years ago when she did an internship at The Charlotte Observer when I was a staff photographer there. Melissa now works as a visual journalist at The Rock Hill Herald, and I was honored when she contacted me about photographing her wedding. And although he recently changed jobs so they could be in the same area, Dan has worked in sports journalism in television.

They had a picture perfect September day for the wedding at First Presbyterian Church and The Harvey B. Gantt Center, with its outdoor terrace, was a magnificent setting for the fun reception.

Thanks as always to our company photographer Laura Mueller, who helped capture many wonderful moments throughout the day.

Thanks and congratulations to Melissa, Dan and their families!

Charlotte Sports Photography: Carolina Panthers vs. the New Orleans Saints

Some of my current clients might be a bit surprised to know that much of my time in the past was spent covering major sporting events.

Before transitioning to weddings and corporate and marketing events, I was a staff photographer for The Charlotte Observer.

In my 14 years at the newspaper, I had the good fortune of covering the Carolina Panthers at home and away games. I was there for their first-ever game at the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio, their first-ever game in Bank of America Stadium all the way to playoff games and ultimately the Super Bowl in Houston.

I left most of that behind when I left the Observer in 2007, but I remain a huge fan of the team and I was itching for a chance to photograph quarterback Cam Newton. I got the opportunity Sunday as Carolina hosted the New Orleans Saints in the home opener.

I had a wonderful time catching up with many old friends and a big Panther victory made the day even sweeter.

Polk County Wedding Photography: Mary Ellen and William

There were a few themes heavily influencing the beautiful rural Polk County wedding of Mary Ellen and William.

The first was an incredible sense of place and family as the celebration took part on the property of Mary Ellen's Aunt Brenda and Uncle John not far from the spot where generations of her family have lived.  And the other was of duty, the kind provided by Navy pilot William and many of his fellow servicemen who took part in the ceremony.

There were wonderful country touches all around the site and the weather cooperated to allow the entire event to go by with nothing more than a few sprinkles.

And thanks to good friend, the talented photographer Richard Israel, who stepped in to assist in documenting the day.

Thanks also to Mary Ellen's parents, Sherry and Daryl, who were so gracious and fun.

Hats off to all involved with this incredible event and congratulations to Mary Ellen, William and their families.

Wedding Photography Sneak Peek: Mary Ellen and William

I have to admit that I've been a bad blogger lately but as the lazy days of summer wind down I plan to do more posting.

And I'm excited to share a wonderful mountain wedding on a scenic property in Polk County, NC.

I wanted to give a quick taste but I'll soon share more images, details and images from a surprise guest photographer.

William is a Navy helicopter pilot and there was a distinct military presence at the beautiful ceremony.

More to follow soon but for now congratulations to Mary Ellen and William and their families!
