Charlotte Family Photography: Jack's Back

It's been a pleasure getting to know Jack's family over the past several years and it was great to see them again at a recent photo shoot.

I first photographed Jack last year and he has grown so much in that time. He is very photogenic and fun, but the challenge lies in the fact, as his mother informed me, "he NEVER stops moving."

Have a wonderful Christmas Jack and family and I look forward to working with you all again early next year.

Dance Photography: NCDT's Nutcracker 2010

One of the many great traditions of this time of year is the annual performance of The Nutcracker.

Charlotte is blessed with an incredible dance company and the North Carolina Dance Theatre's performances never disappoint.

This year was a bit unique as I had a chance to photograph portions of  dress rehearsals over two days with different dancers assuming some of the lead roles. One thing this called to light was NCDT's abundance of talent as different dancers seamlessly stepped into new parts.

There are numerous performances from Dec. 10-12 & Dec. 17-19 with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays.

It's a great way to get into the holiday spirit.

Charlotte Wedding Photography: Sarah and John

Sarah and John had an amazing wedding weekend in Charlotte that included a beautiful rehearsal dinner at The Duke Mansion followed by the wedding at Myers Park Methodist Church and a wonderful reception at Charlotte Country Club.
John's mother Emily hosted the rehearsal dinner at Duke Mansion and added her design touch to the event with a floral assist from Jay at In Bloom. Thanks also to Duke Mansion's Katie Perrin for all of her help.
Dr. James Howell led the beautiful service at Myers Park Methodist before everyone headed to Charlotte Country Club to celebrate.
The setting was amazing with flowers from The Blossom Shop and a masterpiece cake from Kathy Allen of Cakes of Distinction. May Chrisman and the staff at Charlotte Country Club are always a pleasure to work with. And our talented company photographer Laura Mueller came through again with some beautiful images.
Setting the tone all night was the incredible band Big Swing and the Ballroom Blasters.
Congratulations to Sarah, John and their families!

Charlotte Wedding Photography: Sandy and Tom

I love the month of October and it's an especially excellent time for weddings in the Carolinas.

I had the pleasure of photographing Sandy and Tom's October wedding at The VanLandingham Estate in Charlotte.

The talented team of Jenna Schmitt and Ivy Robinson of Ivy Robinson Weddings & Events coordinated a wonderful group of professionals including Heather Bryson of The Look for hair and makeup, Beth Hohensee's florals, Amy Craparo of The Wow Factor's cake and Roy Daye and the Cookie Band with some incredible music. I got another excellent assist from our company photographer Laura Mueller who always comes through with some superb images.

Congratulations Sandy and Tom! I know you are off having an amazing adventure in South Africa.

Cary Wedding Photography: Tara and Ryan

I first had the pleasure of working with Tara and Ryan during their engagement shoot in May in Charlotte.

There were so photogenic and easy to work with and I knew their wedding at The Umstead, an elegant hotel and spa in Cary, NC, would be amazing.

They were blessed with a beautiful afternoon for the outdoor ceremony. There were many touching moments during the intimate event and both families were a pleasure to be around.

Many thanks to Ami Wheeler, the catering sales manager at The Umstead, and the rest of the staff. Watered Garden Florist created an elegant atmosphere for the reception and Ken Holmes of the Joe Bunn DJ Company kept the crowd dancing all night.

Charlotte Wedding Photography: Brantley and Ryan

I love events filled with emotion and Brantley and Ryan's wedding certainly fits that category.
Brantley was a beautiful bride and she is also incredibly expressive. The day was full of emotion and fun from the beautiful ceremony at Christ Episcopal Church to the reception at Charlotte Country Club.
It was easy to see why Brantley, a teacher, is greatly admired by her students, and a good number of them came to the wedding to show their appreciation.
Company photographer Laura Mueller did her usual fantastic job helping to cover the event from all angles.
May Chrisman and the staff at Charlotte Country Club were excellent to work with and it's always fun hearing The Atlanta Showstoppers - just an incredible band. Also Jay at In Bloom and Amy from The Wow Factor Cakes added to the fantastic atmosphere for the event.
It was an amazing day all around. Congratulations Brantley and Ryan!

Mount Pleasant Wedding Photography: Valerie and Nick

Valerie and Nick married along historic Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant, SC, at the Cottage on the Creek.
The intimate event was a wonderful family celebration complete with a first for me: the ring bearers flinging their pillows down the aisle upon their entrance.
But nothing would put a damper on this wonderful event, even heat and humidity that made locals a bit uncomfortable.
It was also a great pleasure seeing Anne and Tim and their families. We photographed their wedding in Charlotte in 2005 (on a similarly hot day) and later had the pleasure of photographing their twins - Mary Anne and Austin. Anne and Tim's parents and Tim's sister made the trip as well. I also learned that Valerie's family and I shared some ties in Upstate New York and both families were a joy to be around.
Congratulations Valerie and Nick, and have a great time in Saint Lucia!

New York Trip: Saratoga and New York City Photography

Although we've lived in North Carolina for 20 years, we have many roots in the northeast and I always enjoy getting up there - especially at this time of year.

With our son Sean getting ready to head off to college, I figured this would be a good time for us to take a trip together. Sean loves New York City, so I dropped him off with his sister Alison for a few days as I headed further north to Saratoga Springs.

It was great to see Alison and her boyfriend Mike, and I got the extra bonus of seeing my brother and sister and their families.

I first photographed the racing in Saratoga in the mid-90s and I've wanted to go back for some time. Thanks to my brother Ben for helping me get credentials and then getting up at 5 a.m. to go to the track with me. (We got to play a little golf too).

It was so nice seeing everyone but I wish Betsy could have made the trip.

We also wanted to congratulate Alison on her new job in New York - we are very proud and happy for you!
